Livabilities is about building community.
Individuals with special needs have the desire to socialize, feel love, and be active in their community. Our community members are caring individuals who have the desire to serve and to feel that they are making a difference locally. We believe we can bring these populations together through our community center. Our community center will serve our residents, special needs individuals in our community, and our local community members.
We are dedicated to providing a safe and loving home for individuals with significant developmental disabilities. Our resident home will provide 24 hour support in the warmth of a traditional home. We understand the daily challenges and needs of a developmentally disabled individual and we believe they deserve respect for all of their unique abilities. They should live out these abilities in a loving environment and their families should feel secure in knowing their loved one is safe and happy.
Livabilities was founded by a family whose daughter has Angelman Syndrome. Individuals with Angelman Syndrome require constant supervision to keep them safe. Many are severely developmentally delayed and require support for their most basic needs. They have abnormal sleep patterns with a diminished need for sleep. Most are non-verbal and have limited forms of communication. They have unique behaviors of frequent laughter, smiling and a happy, excitable demeanor. They have an unsteady gait with ataxia and tremulous movements. Most have seizures. They also have an attraction and fascination with water and love to swim. Individuals with Angelman Syndrome are very expressive and love to socialize. They have a full life expectancy. As a parent ages, they need to know that their child with Angelman Syndrome will be cared for long after they are gone. Finding a safe and loving living situation where the parent can help their child make the transition is incredibly important for the well being of the child and parent. We all want to know that our children are happy and safe. This is the driving force behind Livabilities.
